First real training today...

Well, the first real training took place today in the China ODC. That said, and not surprisingly, I immediately had to wing it. We were going to start with Session 1 and that meant beginning with some basic tool introductions. Unfortunately, there was not enough connectivity in the training room and wouldn't be until the afternoon. So I went on to Session 2. After lunch (the canteen across the street from the Sofware Park), I went on into Session 3, even though there were new hubs installed over the lunch time-frame. I think tomorrow we'll even get to go back to Session 1.

The China ODC team is really excited about the training and getting to do some productive work. The team has a few members with very good English skills and they were following me the best. Even those without the strong language skills did good and many of them asked a lot of very good questions. As always, even in classes taught in America, a few remained pretty quiet.

Looks like all but a nagging few of the network access issues have been resolved. It took over an hour of my time on the phone to a CSC network resource in Dayton, but we made big progress. Now we just need to close off on the few remaining issues.

Plan for Wednesday is to go back to Session 1 and then continue on with Session 4, back on track with any luck at all.

Here are a few photos from the day at the office:

Here is me (of course) conducting a little training on processes.

Here is me (of course) again, still talking about processes.

Here's a view of the office, taken by me standing up on top of one of the cubicle desks. The entire office has probably 2-3 times this square footage.

PITT #4: About the power. Here's a vew (below) of the unusual power strips I first encountered when in India in 2003. These are quite nice because you can plug a power cord from just about any country into these things . They work just fine for everything I have along. This one is in the China ODC office. The one in the hotel is similar. However, the wall-plug power point in the hotel is unlike the ones in the office, although these power strips certainly compensate nicely. In the hotel is a wall-plug power point that is the identical one as is supposed to be in use in the U.K., which is to say it has two large, flat prongs oriented horizontally, with the ground prong (also a big flat one) oriented vertically, centered above the two horizontal plugs. The ones in the office are the ones I expected based on the research I did before the trip. But be careful not to plug ANY 110v-only device or charger into any outlet here! It's all 240v! Anyway, here is the view of those interesting universal power strips.
